About Ole V. Hansen

Ole V. Hansen became one of Denmark's most influential tattoo artists and earned the title "King of the Tattooers – Tattooer of the Kings."

Throughout the 1950s, his original flash artwork decorated the walls of Tattoo Ole, inspiring generations of sailors, artists and travellers.

His work remains an important part of Tattoo Ole's artistic heritage and continues to inspire new generations through The Ole V. Hansen Archive.

Tattoo Ole is the world's oldest continuously operating tattoo shop, located beneath the historic streets of Copenhagen since 1884.

For more than 140 years, sailors, artists and travellers from around the world have descended the steps to the small basement beneath Nyhavn 17.

Some arrived before setting sail.

Others returned home after years away.

Many came as strangers.

Most left as friends.

Tattoo Ole has always been more than a tattoo shop.
